{"id":90858,"date":"2015-06-17T14:54:56","date_gmt":"2015-06-17T12:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=90858"},"modified":"2015-06-17T15:00:15","modified_gmt":"2015-06-17T13:00:15","slug":"projects-dry-up-for-e-toll-management-firm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/90858\/projects-dry-up-for-e-toll-management-firm\/","title":{"rendered":"Projects dry up for e-toll management firm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Kapsch Trafficom, the Austrian firm contracted to manage the controversial e-toll system, has this week reported a decline in annual revenue &#8211; due to the lack of new large toll projects.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa announced the new dispensation for the implementation of the e-toll system in May after the initial system launched in December 2013, was largely rejected by the public, who refused to pay their e-toll bills.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The projects in Gauteng, South Africa, and in Belarus were in operation for their<br \/>\nfirst entire fiscal year, with a positive impact on the results,&#8221; <span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Kapsch Trafficom<\/span> said in a statement earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>However, it noted that the payment rate in Gauteng was still &#8216;below the planned<br \/>\nvalues&#8217; while the planned project profitability has not yet been reached.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The operation projects continued to supply stable earnings contributions,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;New major orders remained elusive due to a lack of invitations to tender,&#8221; Kapsch said.<\/p>\n<p>Before the implementation of e-tolls, Bloomberg reported that Kapsch TrafficCom expected to get\u00a0an annual revenue boost of \u201csignificantly more\u201d than \u20ac50 million for eight years from the Gauteng project.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Kapsch Trafficom<\/span> said that it had distributed more than 1.4 million on-board units (OBUs) for electronic toll collection.
