{"id":91016,"date":"2015-06-18T14:57:45","date_gmt":"2015-06-18T12:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=91016"},"modified":"2015-06-18T15:10:35","modified_gmt":"2015-06-18T13:10:35","slug":"new-e-toll-fees-are-not-what-were-promised-jpsa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/91016\/new-e-toll-fees-are-not-what-were-promised-jpsa\/","title":{"rendered":"New e-toll fees are not what were promised: JPSA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Project South Africa has detailed how much motorists will pay under the new e-toll dispensation, set to take effect from 2 July 2015.<\/p>\n<p>On 17 June\u00a0the new tariffs were published in government gazette 38884 under notice numbers 524 and 525, said the JPSA.<\/p>\n<p>This follows an announcement by\u00a0Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa on 20 May about the new &#8220;dispensation for the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:\u00a0<a title=\"Permalink to Why government desperately needs e-tolling to work\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/90960\/why-government-desperately-needs-e-tolling-to-work\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">Why government desperately needs e-tolling to work<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">New tariffs<\/h3>\n<p>The new tariffs are as follows<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The tariff of approximately <strong>30c per kilometre<\/strong> is to continue to apply to <strong>registered e-tag users<\/strong>, and will\u00a0apply to <strong>registered VLN users<\/strong> who were previously expected to pay approximately 58c per kilometre.<\/li>\n<li>Both types of registered users still have to sign Sanral&#8217;s\u00a0terms and conditions which have been publicly stated as being \u201c90% compliant with the Consumer Protection Act\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>If these registered users don\u2019t have a prepaid account, or don\u2019t have a payment method acceptable to Sanral,\u00a0they will be charged the \u201calternate user tariff\u201d\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<strong>approximately 90c per kilometre<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Registered users will have\u00a0a 31-day \u201cgrace period\u201d from time of passing under a gantry in which to pay the \u201calternate user tariff\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cUnregistered alternate users\u201d will have a 7-day grace period to pay and are not\u00a0entitled to the discount<\/li>\n<li>If unregistered alternate users <strong>pay within the 7-day grace period<\/strong>, they will be charged the \u201cstandard tariff\u201d &#8211; approximately <strong>30c per kilometre<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If they <strong>pay before an invoice is issued by Sanral<\/strong>\u00a0or within 30 days of the date of the invoice they will receive a 60% discount on the alternate user tariff\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0approximately<strong> 54c per kilometre<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Two gantries, \u201cInkovu (N4-1)\u201d and \u201cPenguin (N4-1)\u201d have been deleted from the list of gantries, reducing the total list from 49 to 47 gantries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Discounts on outstanding e-tolls<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;A discount of 60% will be applicable on previously incurred e-tolls and for a specific period at some time in the future.
