{"id":9143,"date":"2012-04-04T10:31:17","date_gmt":"2012-04-04T08:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=9143"},"modified":"2012-04-04T11:15:02","modified_gmt":"2012-04-04T09:15:02","slug":"e-banking-on-the-rise-in-sa-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/9143\/e-banking-on-the-rise-in-sa-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"E-banking on the rise in SA: survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly half of South Africans (48%) have used the web in the past three months to buy products and services online, a new survey has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>According to independent market research company, <a title=\"Ipsos\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/380313-Ipsos\">Ipsos<\/a>, a majority of citizens in 24 countries who use the internet said they do so to check their bank accounts (59%), and four in ten (41%) have surfed to look for jobs in the last three months.<\/p>\n<p>The research notes that e-banking is taking hold in SA as 74% of respondents have used the web to \u2018check bank account and other financial holdings\u2019 in the last 90 days, pacing it above countries like Belgium, and on par with Poland and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of Swedes (88%) are e-banking, as are three quarters in France (76%).<br \/>\nSix in 10 respondents globally use the web for the research phase, saying they \u2018visit sites for info on products I am thinking of buying.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Countries where online shopping has become the norm for online-connected citizens are among the world\u2019s most developed countries:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Germany (74%)<\/li>\n<li>Great Britain (74%)<\/li>\n<li>Sweden (68%)<\/li>\n<li>United States (65%)<\/li>\n<li>South Korea (62%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Uptake of online shopping has been least strong in Saudi Arabia (21%), Mexico (23%), Hungary (26%) and Russia (28%).<\/p>\n<p>The list is slightly different for those using the web to research products they wish to buy &#8211; the following countries top the measure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sweden (80%)<\/li>\n<li>Turkey (74%)<\/li>\n<li>Great Britain (71%)<\/li>\n<li>Indonesia (69%)<\/li>\n<li>South Korea (69%)<\/li>\n<li>US (68%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Saudi Arabia (36%), Hungary (44%), Mexico (45%), India (53%) and Belgium (55%) round out the bottom of the list.<\/p>\n<p>SA, at 57%, beats the global average\u00a0of \u00a041% of respondents who have used the internet \u2018to look for a job or search job (recruitment) sites\u2019 in the last three months.<\/p>\n<p>Six in ten of those in Poland, Hungary (58%), and Mexico (55%) have logged on to look for a job, while only 17% in Japan, 25% in South Korea and France, and 26% in Belgium have done so.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related article<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"BusinessTech Article\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/9089\/banking-tops-online-activity-survey\/\">Banking tops online activity survey<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly half of South Africans (48%) have used the web in the past three months to buy products and services online, a new survey has revealed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":9145,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[961],"tags":[2236,26,2237,2238,861],"class_list":["post-9143","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-banking","tag-e-banking","tag-headline","tag-ipsos","tag-research","tag-survey"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9143","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/9"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=9143"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9143\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9147,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9143\/revisions\/9147"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/9145"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=9143"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=9143"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=9143"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
