security upgrades only cost 25% of the total spend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Police Minister Nathi Nhleko only R50.5m was spent on security upgrades to President Jacob Zuma&#8217;s Nkandla home.<\/p>\n<p>The total cost of Nkandla was estimated at around R206m, he said at a press briefing on the upgrades on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Of this R50.5m was spent on security, R20.7m on consultants and R135.2m on houses which should never have been lumped into the amount for Nkandla spending.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a list of 18 security upgrades the R50.5m was spent on, according to the minister:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visitors centre<\/li>\n<li>SA Police Service control room<\/li>\n<li>SAPS guard house on the main security road<\/li>\n<li>Four SAPS guard houses around the fence<\/li>\n<li>Perimeter intrusion detection system (PIDS) fence technology<\/li>\n<li>Open water source or fire pool<\/li>\n<li>Animal enclosure which included a kraal with culvert and chicken run<\/li>\n<li>Amphitheatre, which was an emergency assembly point, parade ground and soil retaining wall<\/li>\n<li>A security road<\/li>\n<li>A patrol road and paved roads around the security precinct<\/li>\n<li>State vehicle garages<\/li>\n<li>Lights<\/li>\n<li>Soil retaining wall<\/li>\n<li>Lightening arrestors<\/li>\n<li>Fire fighting equipment<\/li>\n<li>Bullet proof windows<\/li>\n<li>Alarm security system<\/li>\n<li>Power generators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a
