{"id":92526,"date":"2015-07-07T09:14:32","date_gmt":"2015-07-07T07:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=92526"},"modified":"2015-07-07T09:16:20","modified_gmt":"2015-07-07T07:16:20","slug":"sanral-admits-new-e-toll-tariff-blunder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/92526\/sanral-admits-new-e-toll-tariff-blunder\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanral admits to new e-toll tariff blunder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Roads agency Sanral has admitted a fault in the system relating to new e-toll tariffs for registered e-tag users who expect discounts for off-peak toll passes.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2015\/07\/07\/E-tolls-Why-the-numbers-dont-add-up\" target=\"_blank\">Eye Witness News<\/a>, e-tagged motorists are actually paying more under the new e-toll dispensation\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0designed to alleviate the financial burden for motorists\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0due to a &#8216;maths quirk&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new dispensation, which came into affect on 1 July,\u00a0 all motorists pay a \u201cstandard tariff\u201d \u2013 approximately <strong>30c per kilometre<\/strong> which removes the need to have an e-tag, despite new Sanral adverts insisting that e-tag or registered users still benefit.<\/p>\n<p>All motorists are able to pay a capped monthly fee of R225 under the new system, down from a previous cap of R450.<\/p>\n<p>The new tariffs have done away with the discount offered to those in possession of an e-tag and replaced it with a standard tariff for all users.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa), Wayne Duvenage, pointed out that users who previously benefited from a time of day discount are discounted on a lower standard tariff under the new system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rate that is applied during the time of day discount is actually higher than what it was during the old dispensation, so to speak. It\u2019s actually gone the other way.
