A french design company has filed a patent in which it proposes face-to-face seating arrangements for commercial flights in order to squeeze more passengers in.<\/p>\n

According to Sky News<\/a>, Zodiac Seats France, a manufacturer of aircraft passenger seats, has designed a new seating configuration that would radically change the way we sit on commercial flights.<\/p>\n

The ‘Economy Class Cabin Hexagon’ would see the middle passenger seat rotated 180 degrees so as to create more space.<\/p>\n

Other than the patent, there is no evidence that this new arrangement will be adopted in the airline industry yet.<\/p>\n

In 2012, budget airline Ryanair proposed the idea of a ‘standing cabin’ as part of a cost cutting measure, with the company’s CEO calling commercial planes “just a bus with wings”.<\/p>\n

Airbus, and China’s Spring Airlines have also since looked into the idea of having a vertical passenger seat.<\/p>\n

Samoa Air became the world’s first airline to charge passengers according to their weight rather than by the seat they purchase.
