{"id":92992,"date":"2015-07-13T08:31:52","date_gmt":"2015-07-13T06:31:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=92992"},"modified":"2015-07-13T08:31:52","modified_gmt":"2015-07-13T06:31:52","slug":"prasa-to-prove-that-afro-4000-trains-will-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/92992\/prasa-to-prove-that-afro-4000-trains-will-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Prasa to prove that Afro 4000 trains will work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To prove that its new trains do work\u201a the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) will hit the rails with members of the media on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing last week\u2019s media coverage of the Afro 4000\u201a the Group CEO of Prasa\u201a Lucky Montana\u201a would like to invite members of the media to a presentation and a ride on the locomotives\u201a\u201d a press statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The train &#8211; 70 (20 diesel and 50 hybrid) of which were procured from Vossloh in Spain &#8211; will depart from Pretoria Station.<\/p>\n<p>The train made headlines last week after the Rapport newspaper reported that the Afro 4000 locomotives are unsuitable for South African infrastructure as the height of the trains is 4.264m whereas the national limit was 3.965m.<\/p>\n<p>The controversy deepened when Prasa\u201a at a hastily convened press conference\u201a introduced its executive manager for engineering services\u201a Dr Daniel Mtimkulu\u201a as the designer of the train.<\/p>\n<p>Allegations emerged that Mtimkulu is not qualified or registered with the profession&#8217;s statutory body.
