Road agency Sanral is looking for a new CEO, as current head Nazir Alli reaches retirement age in August.<\/p>\n
Alli has been at the helm of the organisation since its inception in 1998.<\/p>\n
Under Alli’s leadership, Sanral has grown from managing a road network of 7,200km in 1998 to 21,403km currently – which is expected to grow to 35,000km in the future, said Sanral.<\/p>\n
The executive also oversaw one of the agency’s most controversial moves – the implementation of the e-tolling system in Gauteng.<\/p>\n
Alli resigned as Sanral CEO in 2012, when the much-chided e-tolling system was drawing public ire and widespread opposition.\u00a0The move was welcomed by opposition groups and politicians, at the time.<\/p>\n
However, the government refused his resignation and Alli remained in the top spot.<\/p>\n
Although Alli will retire when he turns 65 in August, his last day will be determined by the Minister of Transport, in consultation with Sanral\u2019s Board, subsequent to the appointment of the new CEO and a hand-over period.<\/p>\n
Sanral said is it searching for a new CEO, and that the ideal candidate “should be a visionary leader who is also a qualified civil engineer”.<\/p>\n
“This person must have extensive experience at a senior management level accompanied by a solid track record of leading a similar or similar-sized organisation,” it said.<\/p>\n
The agency said the candidate must be “a person of influence”, who will be charged with developing a tactical plan to advance the company\u2019s mission, vision, and objectives.<\/p>\n
