MTN South Africa has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) to end strike action immediately.<\/p>\n
At the core of the agreement, the union has accepted MTN\u2019s bonus and salary adjustment policies, the operator said.<\/p>\n
CWU workers at MTN have been striking since May 20, asking for higher annual salary increases and bigger bonus payouts.<\/p>\n
In response to union demands, MTN made concessions,\u00a0promising\u00a0bonus payments of 4% in November, and considering 8% salary increases each year for level 1 and 2 staff, subject to board approval.<\/p>\n
The CWU was demanding\u00a0\u00a0a 10% pay hike, but MTN would not budge on the position.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe agreement serves the common interests of MTN and the employees, and allows MTN to focus on its core reason for existence, which is to deliver services to its customers,\u201d said new MTN SA CEO, Mteto Nyati.<\/p>\n
He apologised for the inconvenience that MTN customers suffered during the period of the strike.<\/p>\n
