The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) chief executive officer Lucky Montana has been fired.<\/p>\n
The transport group\u2019s board led by chairperson Popo Molefe announced on Thursday afternoon that Montana had been \u201creleased from serving his notice period\u201d.<\/p>\n
“The (board) led by chairperson Popo Molefe has announced (that) Prasa CEO Lucky Montana has been released from serving his notice period,” City Press editor Ferial Haffajee tweeted on Thursday.<\/p>\n
“Montana was to leave in December 2015,” she tweeted. “He has been in public service and transport since 1994.”<\/p>\n
“Mr Montana\u2019s last day of employment with the Prasa will accordingly be 15 July 2015,” tweeted Beeld editor Adriaan Basson.<\/p>\n
The Prasa board said that on Wednesday it resolved that Montana will not be required to work the remainder of his notice period, which commenced on 1 June until December 2015.<\/p>\n
“Mr Montana\u2019s last day of employment with the Prasa will accordingly be 15 July 2015,” Prasa said in a statement on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Until the Prasa board finds a “suitable replacement,” Prasa chief operations officer Nathi Khena would step into the role. Khena is also acting CEO of Autopax.<\/p>\n
“As a board, we want to appeal to all of you to remain focused on your day to day functions and the responsibility that you have been entrusted with by the company,” the Prasa board said.<\/p>\n
“It is imperative that we remain professional and committed to deliver on the broader mandate of this organisation.”<\/p>\n
Prasa will hold a press conference on Friday to answer media queries.<\/p>\n
