MTN is expanding its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, with trenching underway in Parkmore, Morningside, and Lonehill in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
The expansion coincides with an\u00a0announcement by the company that it supports open-access networks, which allow independent ISPs to offer broadband services over its fibre connections.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch is our focus on creating an enabling environment to promote cost-efficient and flexible Internet services, that we will have a wholesale commercial product offering for interested fibre-to-the-home Internet service providers by mid-August,\u201d says MTN.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe key advantage of an open-access network is that residents will have multiple options, and MTN will be holding discussions with a number of ISPs in order to provide its customers with a wider selection.\u201d<\/p>\n
