{"id":93851,"date":"2015-07-23T07:27:55","date_gmt":"2015-07-23T05:27:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=93851"},"modified":"2015-07-23T07:27:55","modified_gmt":"2015-07-23T05:27:55","slug":"vodacom-reveals-how-much-data-smartphone-customers-use","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/93851\/vodacom-reveals-how-much-data-smartphone-customers-use\/","title":{"rendered":"Vodacom reveals how much data smartphone customers use"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vodacom has on Thursday reported a 7% rise in group revenue increased to R19.6 billion with service revenue up 5.1% to R15.66 billion, for the quarterly period ended June 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Group data revenue accelerated 35.2% to R4.85 billion, representing 30.9% of service revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Group active customers grew 6.5% to 63.5 million and active data customers grew 10.8% to 28 million, Vodacom said.<\/p>\n<p>In South Africa, service revenue grew 2.8% to R11.762 billion driven by strong data revenue growth of 34.8%.<\/p>\n<p>International operations\u2019 service revenue increased 12.9% to R3.945 billion, represnting 25.2% of group service revenue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the first quarter of our new financial year we delivered solid growth, which was a continuation of the positive growth momentum we saw in the fourth quarter last year. 7.0% to R19.6 billion,&#8221; said Shameel Joosub, Vodacom Group CEO.<\/p>\n<p>He said that Vodacom invested a further R2.4 billion in the network this quarter as part of the accelerated capital investment programme started towards the end of the 2014 financial year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The increased capacity supported data traffic growth of 45.7% in South Africa and 140.4% in our International operations, which in turn led to Group data revenue increasing 35.2%.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom\u2019s 3G service covers 96.4% and LTE\/4G service covers 40.9% of the population in South Africa. The group increased the number of 3G sites in its International operations by 49.8%, the CEO said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Smart devices remain extremely popular, with approximately 12 million active on the network in South Africa which is almost 3 million more than a year ago.
