{"id":95355,"date":"2015-08-07T13:09:29","date_gmt":"2015-08-07T11:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=95355"},"modified":"2015-08-07T13:15:50","modified_gmt":"2015-08-07T11:15:50","slug":"communications-director-general-placed-on-precautionary-suspension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/95355\/communications-director-general-placed-on-precautionary-suspension\/","title":{"rendered":"Communications director general placed on precautionary suspension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Director general in the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) Rosey Sekese has been placed on precautionary suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services Siyabonga Cwele said on 3 August that leadership problems causing \u201cparalysis\u201d at the department would be investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Cwele said he is \u201cattending to the ongoing leadership challenges which are negatively impacting the department\u2019s ability to execute its functions timeously\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, Cwele said he would consider placing the department\u2019s Sekese on a \u201cprecautionary leave of absence\u201d amid the probe.<\/p>\n<p>Reports have claimed that Sekese is purging the department of those who oppose her.<\/p>\n<p>A statement released by the DTPS on 7 August stated\u00a0that Cwele had received written representations from Sekese as to\u00a0why she should not be placed on precautionary suspension.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After considering the reasons and applying his mind, Minister Cwele has decided to place the director general on precautionary suspension for a period of 60 days while the Public Service Commission conducts its independent inquiry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Minister has accordingly appointed Tinyiko Ngobeni as the Acting Director General until further notice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sekese was placed on special leave in 2013, following a spat with former Communications Minister Dina Pule.<\/p>\n<p>It emerged last week that the government ministry lost its third deputy director general in five months. Sam Vilakazi resigned after Sekese fired Themba Phiri and Gift Buthelezi.
