MTN<\/a> has cut off more numbers from its network, following the operator\u2019s decision to block Cell C\u2019s<\/a> 08419 number range.<\/p>\n

In mid-February reports emerged that MTN had cut off the 08419 Cell C number range, making it impossible for their MTN subscribers to reach these Cell C numbers.<\/p>\n

At the time, Cell C was not happy with this decision from MTN, saying that it was only made aware of MTN\u2019s decision to block its subscribers from using Cell C\u2019s value-added services located in the 08419 range, when the news broke.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in discussions with MTN to encourage them to restore these services to their customers and will investigate this matter further,\u201d Mothibi Ramusi<\/a>, Cell C\u2019s executive head of regulatory affairs, said at the time.<\/p>\n

Two months later, and the situation is getting worse. Cell C\u2019s 08419 numbers are still blocked on the MTN network, and MTN has now started to block additional numbers used for value-added services\u00a0from other service providers (apart from the Cell C numbers) as well.<\/p>\n

Cell C confirmed that the issue is still not resolved, and that they are \u201creviewing their options in pursuing this issue\u201d.<\/p>\n

It is understood that MTN\u2019s decision to cut off numbers from its network is based on these numbers being used to provide affordable international calling services.<\/p>\n

Through using these numbers, MTN subscribers can make affordable calls internationally (only paying local call rates) \u2013 a service which MTN does not seem happy with.<\/p>\n

Service providers have previously spoken out against MTN\u2019s decision to block these numbers, and it seems likely that either individual or collective action will follow soon.<\/p>\n

MTN was asked about its decision to block certain numbers on its network, but the company did not respond to requests for feedback.<\/p>\n
