{"id":96513,"date":"2015-08-23T09:06:25","date_gmt":"2015-08-23T07:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=96513"},"modified":"2015-08-23T09:06:25","modified_gmt":"2015-08-23T07:06:25","slug":"government-officials-eskom-employees-traced-in-ashley-madison-hack-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/96513\/government-officials-eskom-employees-traced-in-ashley-madison-hack-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Government officials, Eskom employees traced in Ashley Madison hack list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the publication of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/135582-175000-south-african-ashley-madison-users-data-exposed-online.html\">Ashley Madison&#8217;s user base<\/a><\/strong> online, the <strong>Sunday Times<\/strong> has traced the credit card details of prominent South African users.<\/p>\n<p>According to the newspaper, among the users whose identity it verified were academics from Stellenbosch University, the University of Johannesburg, and the University of Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>E-mail account information showed that employees from Eskom, the Department of Justice, major municipalities, and the SA police were also signed up to the\u00a0extramarital affair website.<\/p>\n<p>While the newspaper stated it had verified the identity of several local users of the site, it did not disclose their names.<\/p>\n<p>In July, news broke that <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/132665-175000-cheating-south-africans-may-be-exposed-in-ashley-madison-hack.html\">Ashley Madison was\u00a0hit by hackers<\/a><\/strong>, who claimed to have\u00a0stolen personal information about its members.<\/p>\n<p>The user information included names, photographs, and \u201csexual fantasies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The hacker group, called Impact Team, warned at the time that the information would be leaked online unless the site closed down.
