South Africa’s third largest mobile operator, Cell C, has launched Long Term Evolution (LTE) on its network.<\/p>\n
Cell C CEO, Jose Dos Santos announced the commercial launch of the service in Gauteng and KZN on 1 October 2015.<\/p>\n
The chief executive said that the network in the Western Cape will be ready by November.<\/p>\n
It recently announced it will\u00a0invest R427 million into its Western Cape network<\/strong><\/a> between June and December 2015.<\/p>\n The group said it has spent R2.5 billion on its network in 2015, with R2 billion of that on its new LTE network alone.<\/p>\n Cell C said it will spend R6 billion in 2016 and 2017 to extend its LTE coverage, taking total coverage to R8 billion over three years.<\/p>\n Cell C has signed supply agreements with Huawei and ZTE, which will drive the roll out of the planned 4,000 LTE sites.<\/p>\n Dos Santos said that it has focused on the metro areas to date. He said that approximately 400,000 customers have already been using the network for the past week, with positive feedback.<\/p>\n Dos Santos said that the company now has just shy of 22 million customers.
