The SABC\u2019s Annual Report revealed that the salary of its COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, increased from R2,872,000 to R3,784,000 in this financial year.<\/p>\n
This R912,000 pay rise included a bonus of R279,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis near million-rand pay increase is incomprehensible given the ongoing crisis at the SABC,\u201d said the DA.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven the ANC acknowledges in its NGC discussion document that the SABC is in a crisis due to poor management and a lack of accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n
In 2014, the Public Protector found Motsoeneng guilty of unlawfully increasing his own salary three times in the space of one year.<\/p>\n
The Public Protector also found that Motsoeneng lied about having a matric when he applied for a job at the SABC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact is that Motsoeneng should have been suspended and disciplined by the SABC Board as directed by the Public Protector.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead, Motsoeneng continues to rake in millions of rands at the expense of the TV licence-paying public. \u201c<\/p>\n
The DA said there can be no justification for Motsoeneng\u2019s salary to increase by 31% in one year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn comparison, other workers in the public sector such as nurses, teachers, and police officers received a 7% increase over the same period.\u201d<\/p>\n
The DA said it will ask the Public Protector to investigate the pay rise.<\/p>\n
