{"id":99384,"date":"2015-09-25T12:43:37","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T10:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=99384"},"modified":"2015-09-25T12:43:37","modified_gmt":"2015-09-25T10:43:37","slug":"cell-c-to-list-on-the-jse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/99384\/cell-c-to-list-on-the-jse\/","title":{"rendered":"Cell C to list on the JSE?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the chief executive officer of mobile network Cell C, a stock exchange listing for the company is on his &#8216;radar&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C, which is South Africa&#8217;s third largest network with 22 million subscribers, has not listed on the JSE since its launch in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>This means Cell C is not obliged to publicly publish its full financial results.<\/p>\n<p>In May this year Cell C did report that its year-on-year revenues grew 3%, but the company did not detail exact figures concerning losses or profitability.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Cell C CEO Jos\u00e9 Dos Santos this week, Fin24 asked him whether his company would ever consider listing on the JSE.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s certainly something that&#8217;s on my radar,\u201d Dos Santos told Fin24.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that a legacy I&#8217;d like to leave is that we eventually have this company listed and unlock some real value,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa\u2019s two biggest mobile networks Vodacom [JSE:VOD] and MTN [JSE:MTN] are listed on the JSE.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom has about 30 million subscribers and a market capitalisation of R211.6bn, according to Bloomberg data.<\/p>\n<p>MTN has 28 million subscribers in South Africa and a market capitalisation of R331bn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CEO upbeat about ops<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dos Santos also said in a media briefing this week that Cell C is operationally profitable in 2015 for the first time ever.<\/p>\n<p>However, he was not willing to provide Fin24 with further details on the company\u2019s profitability.<\/p>\n<p>Also, reports have quoted Telkom executives as being interested in acquiring Cell C.
