The Mail & Guardian\u2019s deputy editor Moshoeshoe Monare has resigned.<\/p>\n
Monare, who has been acting editor since Angela Quintal quit, resigned in September but had agreed to stay on to assist in the recruitment of a replacement.<\/p>\n
He told News24 on Thursday that he would be staying in journalism, though he would not be drawn on his future plans.<\/p>\n
Mail & Guardian CEO, Hoosain Karjieker, said the process of hiring a new editor would be finalised this week and an announcement would be made on Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cMoshoeshoe has developed into one of our industry\u2019s peers. He also has tremendous insight into the very many complex challenges we face as a country right now and I am sure he is destined for a great future in media,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Monare, who is also the deputy chairperson of South African National Editors Forum, said he would always be proud of having been part of the Mail & Guardian.<\/p>\n
\u201cMail & Guardian is a crucial national institution and its founding mission and values crafted by passionate journalists 30 years ago have never lost their relevance and importance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Thursday was his last day at the newspaper.<\/p>\n
Quintal, who announced her resignation in August and finished off on Wednesday, left the paper to \u201cto take a great leap forward into the unknown\u201d.<\/p>\n
