The most and least stressful jobs in 2016
Every job has inherent stresses attached – it’s a part of being an adult in the working world – but some jobs are way more stressful than others.
According to jobs network, CareerCast, the amount of stress a worker experiences can be predicted by looking at the demands and crises inherent in their job.
Analysing over 200 jobs, the group has developed a stress-ranking system which considers 11 different job demands which can evoke stress.
These factors are:
- Travel
- Deadlines
- Working in the public eye
- Competitiveness
- Physical demands
- Environmental conditions
- Hazards encountered
- The life of oneself or others at risk
- Meeting and interacting with customers and/or the public
- and the potential for job growth
Each demand is assigned a range of points. A high score is awarded if a particular demand is a major part of the job, while fewer points are awarded if the demand is a small part of the job.
“Jobs can be remarkably stressful, albeit for remarkably different reasons. The stress inherent with working as a police officer or firefighter, for example, is readily apparent,” the group said.
Firefighters and police officers face life-threatening situations routinely as a fundamental part of their jobs.
Other jobs, such as PR managers and corporate executives, face stresses that are less apparent – such as meeting deadlines or other demands involved with the position.
Taking these factors into account, these are the 10 most stressful jobs in the world:
