Watch: Physicist takes underwater bullet for science

 ·28 Jan 2016

Daredevil physicist Andreas Wahl has put his own body on the line in the name of science.

The scientist stood chest high in a swimming pool facing several feet away from a gun – also positioned underwater – aimed at his midsection.

The aim of the experiment is to show that it is harder to create movement in water than in air, because water molecules are closer together than air molecules.

The bullet struggles to make centimeters through the water once the gun is fired, because water is 800 times denser than air.

In a previous experiment, Wahl wanted to show that things rotate faster when they approach a central point.
