Watch: SA police officer shot at close range
A video has been posted by the City of Cape Town showing a traffic police officer being shot at point blank range while on duty.
The video, which was captured on dash-cam, shows an unidentified criminal approach officer Nizaam Alexander during a traffic stop.
The criminal drew a gun, which jammed at first, before attempting to steal the officer’s gun.
As Alexander moved away from the criminal, he was shot in the back at close range – but he still managed to roll into a tactical position and return fire.
Alexander then returned to issuing the fine to the driver he stopped, before seeking medical attention.

According to the city, his officer Alexander received the City of Cape Town Traffic Services Departmental Officer of the Year Award for his dedication to service.
