On and off again SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng took to the stage at Mandoza’s funeral to tell mourners to pay their TV licence, and took the opportunity to talk about himself and his achievements.

The SABC board has asked Communications Minister Faith Muthambi to appoint former chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng as its acting COO until December.

The board resolved that he be appointed acting COO as of September 19.

This comes after the Supreme Court of Appeal on Monday rejected his bid for leave to appeal against a High Court ruling that set aside his permanent appointment.

On Friday Motsoeneng took to the stage at the funeral of Kwaito star Mandoza, in Soweto, to hit out at his critics.

“I have been listening to people, and I have been observing when people are saying, Hlaudi is out. You can’t decide for my future. I will decide for my future.

He said that should he leave the SABC, it would not be the first time. “I left the SABC and I came back stronger, and stronger” he said.

Motsoeneng said he didn’t need to be COO to deliver. “It doesn’t matter what position I occupy,” he said.

Motsoeneng reportedly used his opportunity to urge people to pay their TV licences. “Pay your TV licence‚” he said.
