The 6 most lied about facts on CVs in South Africa
Background screening company, Managed Integrity Evaluation (MIE), has identified the most frequently lied about items on candidate resumes in South Africa.
The company conducted a total of 561,346 qualification checks in 2016 – up 17% from 2015.
MIE’s results highlight that a candidate’s educational history is the most likely aspect to contain discrepancies when compared to other background screening checks.
Within these parameters, there are major and minor discrepancies.
Minor discrepancies include misrepresented results – such as a candidate being in the process of completing their qualification, rather than having been awarded their qualification.
Major discrepancies include fraudulent results – such as a candidate forging or altering their certificate deliberately, or never having been awarded the qualification in the first place.
According to MIE’s data, qualification verification is one of the most requested background screening checks.
The qualification screening company highlighted the following six most frequently lied about facts on CV’s:

According to MIE, qualification checks are vital when operating in or recruiting from Africa, because they carry a 37% risk of being fraudulent.
