Jabu Moleketi named next Vodacom chairman

South Africa’s Vodacom Group has appointed Jabu Moleketi to succeed Peter Moyo as the mobile phone operator’s next chairman, the company announced in a statement on Thursday.

Moyo announced his retirement in April after more than seven years at Vodacom. He subsequently announced that he would be joining Old Mutual Emerging Markets as its chief executive in June.

Moleketi will officially take up the role  on 19 July 2017. Moleketi, who was first appointed to the Board of Vodacom in November 2009, and will also take over as chairman of the Nomination Committee and step down from the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee.

Following Moleketi’s appointment, Vodacom also announced the appointment of Mr Sakumzi (Saki) Macozoma as lead independent director of the company, also with effect from Wednesday 19 July 2017.
