Multichoice South Africa appoints new CEO

Calvo Mawela has been appointed as CEO of Multichoice South Africa, Naspers has announced amid other changes to the leadership of its Video Entertainment business.

Mawela will be responsible for Multichoice SA’s business and DStv media sales in the country, taking over from Mark Rayner, who will move to be the chief operating officer for Multichoice SA.

He moves from his role as executive in charge of regulatory affairs and policy for video entertainment, with a strong background in engineering.

Other appointments include Yolisa Phahle – current CEO of M-Net – who will move into the role of CEO of general entertainment; and Fahmeeda Surtee who will become the CEO of DStv’s media sales in South Africa.

Christ Hitchings and Gideon Khobane will continue in their roles as overall CEO of media sales and CEO of Supersport, respectively, Naspers said.

Head of Video Entertainment, Imtiaz Patel, said that the new leadership team will be strong players in the company’s next phase of growth, which will take on the challenges of technological shifts and other  regulatory and competitor challenges.
