SARS mobile eFiling now on iOS and Android

 ·27 Sep 2012

The South African Revenue Service (SARS)  has released the mobile app for its eFiling service on the Google Play store and the Apple app store.

Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan declared tax filing season open on July 2, and announced that taxpayers would be able to file their returns via an application on a smartphone or iPad.

However, SARS noted that the app would only be officially launched approximately six weeks after tax season opened.

It is unclear exactly when the app was officially launched, but the “update” on Google Play has a date of September 25, 2012, along with 10 – 50 installs to date. SARS could not provide comment on the app.

Taking tax to mobile

The revenue service heralds its eFiling App as an innovation that will appeal to the new generation of mobile taxpayers.

With the new eFiling App, taxpayers are able to complete and submit their annual Income Tax Returns quickly and easily on their smartphones, tablets or iPads and receive their assessment.

As a registered eFiler you can use the SARS eFiling App to:

  • View, complete and submit your annual basic Income Tax Return (ITR12);
  • Save and edit your ITR12 locally on your device;
  • Use the tax calculator to get an indication of your assessment outcome;
  • View the status of your return once submitted;
  • View a summary of your Notice of Assessment (ITA34);
  • View a summary your Statement of Account (ITSA).

The app is free, and available for download (Android: 30MB, iOS: 39.7MB). The app is compatible with Android versions 2.2 (Froyo) and up, and iOS 4 and above.

The SARS Mobile eFiling app can be downloaded here for Android, and via Apple’s app store for iOS.
