BusinessTech grabbed the chance to engage in some Q&A with Nashua Mobile MD, Chris Radley, asking him about his take on the tech industry, and what he plans for the year that lies ahead.

Are we seeing enough innovation in the technology space in SA?

Big South African businesses are doing great things – just look at the way FNB is shaking up the banking space – but it would wonderful to see some more start-ups coming to market with new innovations and inventions.

What are you most excited about for the next 12 months?

I’m really excited about the opportunity we have to position Nashua Mobile as a customer service champion for the industry. We have a number of projects underway that are all about making it easier for customers to interact with us and enriching the customer experience.

What is your biggest challenge, what keeps you awake at night?

Staying ahead of an industry that is changing all the time. Keeping abreast of the technology feels like a full time job in its own right.

What is your business passion? What excites you most, what gets you out of bed in the morning?

The idea that we have an opportunity to become a customer service leader in our industry.

Did Santa spoil you with any new tech gadgets over Christmas?

Although I found no tech gadgets under the Christmas tree this year, I am hoping to treat myself to a new tablet computer very soon.

Any favourite apps in your library?

I use the WeatherTrack and Bloomberg apps nearly every day.

Online video in enterprise? Yes or no?

Definitely – it has much to offer for applications as diverse as video conferencing, online learning, advertising and even tutorials for customers.

Social media?

Absolutely – it is becoming as much of an essential business tool as email or the Web. Every company needs to be using it to interact with employees, customers and other stakeholders.

What do you do when you’re not at the office?

I like to keep fit and healthy – so I train at the gym a few times a week. I’m a keen traveller with a love of nature. There are few things I enjoy more than packing the gadgets and equipment and filling the car up for a road trip into Africa.
