Black Friday 2022 deals at Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Woolworths and Makro
South Africa’s biggest retailer will be running Black Friday specials this year, with some sales already on the go.
Historically, South Africans have used the massive deals at retailers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Woolworths and Makro to stock up on essential items, or to get a jump on their festive season shopping for December.
Here’s what these retailers have in store.
Shoprite
South Africa’s biggest retailer, Shoprite, says that it will be running in-store and online Black Friday deals in 2022 across all its brands, including Checkers, LiquorShop and Petshop Science.
Checkers, which has been running Black Friday specials since 2014, will continue with the tradition offering its staple of up to 50% off during the sale.
The group said that customers can look forward to deals on groceries, toys, top appliance brands, tech, wine and more, in-store and online, with contingency plans in place to prevent any interruptions or outages due to load shedding.
The business has several digital channels, including browsing sites for Shoprite and Checkers, e-commerce websites for LiquorShop and Petshop Science, and the Checkers Sixty60 app.
Black Friday leaflets will be published on the Shoprite and Checkers sites so that customers can plan their shopping, it said.
For its online sales, the group said that it does not anticipate any issues with orders or deliveries, saying there has been a lot of focus on system stability and being able to scale the system in line with customer demand.
“We are ready, our systems are ready, and we do not anticipate any issues,” the group said.
Woolworths
Woolworths has been running early Black Friday deals for over two weeks, slowly unlocking more sales as the big Black Friday salesday approaches.
The group’s current sales, which include up to 20% off – or 30% off for WRewards customers – on select clothing and apparel items will be running until 13 November, when the next set of deals will be revealed.
The Black Friday buzz is extending to the Woolworth Food segment as well, with several specials underway.
As with other retailers, a bigger splash is expected on Black Friday itself, with Woolworths promising even bigger savings for WRewards customers.
Pick n Pay
Pick n Pay has not revealed much about its Black Friday plans other than to confirm that the sale will definitely be happening, and that it will again integrate its Smart Shopper rewards programme into the deals for further savings.
The group said customers should expect massive deals on groceries, liquor, household cleaning, and more – with deals expected to be revealed closer to the day.
The Black Friday sale will also extend to the group’s nely-launched homeware brand, PnP Home, which is dedicated to homeware and appliances.
These products include large and small appliances, televisions and tech, home and kitchenware, baby, outdoor and more. The range will also be expanded soon with the launch of new product categories to meet all Pick n Pay customers’ home requirements.
Makro
Like Woolworths, Makro has been running its “Flaming Hot Deals” in November in the run-up to a big Black Friday sale on the 25th.
While not marketed as a formal part of the Black Friday sale, the Flaming Hot Deals specials are time-limited, running for only one week at a time.
For the Black Friday sale itself, Makro says it will be offering great deals on a selection of products ranging from appliances to liquor, electronics, cellular, gaming, and more.
Game
After two consecutive years of month-long ‘Black November’ deals, due to the Covid pandemic, Game is returning to its one-day Black Friday sale and bringing back midnight openings in 2022.
The retailer will open most of its 108 stores across the country from 00h00 on Friday, 25 November, and extend operating hours to 20h00 to give shoppers time to get their hands on the deals.
Game said it will have an assortment of products available at heavily discounted prices across its categories, but shoppers can expect major deals on electronics, appliances, homeware, DIY and outdoor this year.
