Massive water outage hitting Joburg next week extended to 58 hours
Johannesburg Water says a major water outage planned for next week in Johannesburg will now finish 14 hours later than previously communicated.
Johannesburg Water previously said that the planned maintenance would take place from 19h00 on Tuesday, 11 July to 15h00 on Thursday, 13 July – a total of 44 hours.
However, the completion date of the maintenance has now been moved from 15h00 on Thursday, 13 July to 05h00 on Friday, 14 July.
This means that the planned shutdown will now take place from 19h00 on Tuesday, 11 July to 05h00 on Friday, 14 July 2023 – a total of 58 hours.
This is the same amount of time that was initially scheduled for in June.
The shutdown was previously meant to start on 20 June, but Johannesburg Water requested a postponement to provide relief to various areas that experienced supply issues during the prior weeks.
The point of the shutdown is to finish a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, install isolation valves and upgrade Rand Water’s Einkenhof pump station.
Rand Water’s Daleside pump station and Johannebsurg Water’s Yeoville station will be affected by the shutdown.
Johannebsurg Water said that it will provide further updates on the impacted Johannesburg infrastructure (reservoirs, towers and direct feeds) and alternative water supply.
