How AddPay and Wiseasy payment solutions are empowering small businesses in South Africa
AddPay and Wiseasy recently attended the Seamless Africa 2023 conference to showcase their industry-leading payment solutions – including the new AddPay T2 EMV Android Tablet.
This all-in-one tablet (designed and built by Wiseasy), streamlines the customer journey for South African businesses with a big focus on restaurant operators.
Empowering service staff and customers by saving time and improving service
“In an environment that is changing rapidly, Wiseasy with its partner AddPay has brought in a truly integrated solution on a single screen with T2.”
“Now businesses don’t need multiple devices/vendors, the T2 is One Gateway + One Payment Device + One Order management tool, all combined into One powerful product.” according to Mayank Raheja, Managing Director for Wiseasy EMEA.
Waiters can navigate the restaurant’s menu on their individual tablets to save time recording the order and increase accuracy.
Eliminating the need for a waiter station, waiters can take or update any order on this mobile Android device on-the-go, with any additional preparation requests, sent directly to the kitchen printer.
Any waiter can also accept payment on a T2-linked device, which then duplicates these updates in real-time across all other devices, including the back-office system.
The customer’s bill is then automatically recorded and stored on the ‘cloud’, allowing waiters to switch tables at any time and have access to each new table’s orders instantly.
When the customer is ready to pay, the tablet integrates with a wide range of cashless payment options – including contactless payments that simply require the customer to tap their card on the T2’s display.
Streamlining business operations
According to Marius Liebenberg, CEO of AddPay, the T2 is a great example of how AddPay sells payment solutions, not just SMARTPOS devices and software.
“People are so used to that little box that runs on its own and is only used for payments,” said Liebenberg.
In contrast, AddPay’s hardware – developed by Wiseasy – works with powerful software to streamline business operations.
The PayCloud software records real-time transactions with a wealth of information including bank instructions.
During ‘loadshedding’ transactions are easily tracked, thus eliminating any doubt of unsuccessful transactions.
Even exact settlement information is available for the merchant. Information is available on a web portal as well as a mobile app.
The TMS (Terminal Management System) is a platform that allows users to view all active terminals in the field.
Software updates and new apps can be loaded, and repairs can be done remotely, which eradicates the need to “send a technician”.
With point-of-sale software, stock levels can be tracked and managed.
Innovative Android software report on sales performance, accept deliveries, programme recipes and supply a wealth of data to a merchant.
“We want businesses to view our solutions as primarily delivering business productivity, while also having the ability to process payments,” said Liebenberg.
The T2 tablet’s use case is a great example of this.
AddPay solutions can also be used to track and manage stock levels, re-order stock, track sales performance, and much more, too.
Tailored to South Africa
The relationship between Wiseasy and AddPay has not only been hugely beneficial for their South African customers, but both businesses have also benefitted immensely from the partnership.
“We both bring something to the table- We bring the technology, and AddPay brings the business operations, relationships, and localised services,” explained Abdullah-Al Safayat, Wiseasy Director of Customer Engineering.
For example: with the popularity of mobile wallets in South Africa, devices like the T2 prioritise SMARTPOS and QR payment support.
Furthermore, AddPay continues collaborating with Wiseasy to support agency banking as a way to bank the unbanked.
Agency banking enables informal businesses to act as bank branches and help local residents open their own bank accounts.
Informal businesses can also offer valuable services, such as airtime and prepaid electricity (add in all the services), through AddPay solutions.
AddPay devices serve as a platform where users can choose several add-ons.
Apart from value-added services, like airtime, electricity and gaming, the devices host third-party point-of sale software and several payment options like buy now pay later, loans and layby, because the device is Android, almost any Play Store app can be uploaded.
Exciting growth plans
AddPay is achieving incredible success with its payment solutions in South Africa, with Liebenberg estimating there are 30,000 AddPay devices being used in the local informal sector alone.
The company is expanding to other African countries, too, including Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, and is actively investigating opportunities in Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, and Nigeria.
“South Africa is a country that influences many of the countries around it,” said Safayat.
“Our plan is to start South Africa, and expand to the rest of Africa – and we are excited to see this happening.”
