Car sale trends in South Africa
Data from automotive market intelligence firm, Lightstone Auto, reveals which car companies have been most successful in South Africa over the past several years.
The latest sales figures from the group, to date (October 2014), show that over 540,000 vehicles have been sold over the course of the year in SA.
A total of 59,384 cars were sold in October 2014, up 4.7% from 56,608 sold the year before.
Toyota is the most popular car brand for South Africans in 2014 so far by sales, with Toyota Hilux taking the top spot for specific vehicles.
The latest figures reflect a continuing trend in the South African motor vehicle industry, where the Toyota Hilux has consistently outsold every other light vehicle in the country since 2008.
The only exception was in 2012, when the Volkswagen Polo Vivo took the top spot.
Taking only passenger vehicles into account, the VW Polo and Polo Vivo have been the clear winners in the country since 2008.
The tables below detail the top 10 selling cars in the country from 2008 to 2014 (year to date), according to Lightstone Auto’s data.
