  • Surpassed expectations: A recent release shows that mining output rose 3.9% year on year – beating widespread estimates by experts of a 1.2% growth. The manufacturing is also up by 2.1%, beating forecasts of a 1.7% advance. [BusinessTech]

  • What water crisis?: Johannesburg Water says that there is no “water crisis” because only a few of the more than 100 water systems in the city have been affected by outages (hitting areas such as Sandton, CBD, the south, and west).   • Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens get full police powers: Gauteng’s controversial Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens have been declared peace officers after the Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services granted them formal legal powers under the Criminal Procedure Act. This means they will now have the power of arrest and can carry a firearm.   • Markets: The South African Rand rebounded in early trading on Tuesday against the dollar, as global markets prepared for consumer inflation data from the US, which could set the tone for the Federal Reserve’s future interest rate trajectory.
