Eskom ramps up load shedding for the week ahead – here’s the new schedule
Eskom will increase load shedding for the workweek as it battles with broken generating units and the need for planned maintenance.
Following a daytime suspension of load shedding over the weekend, Eskom said that it will implement stage 2 load shedding from 05:00 on Monday, 18 March until further notice.
Eskom said that the escalation was due to the loss of two generating units over the past 24 hours and the
increase of planned maintenance as part of its plan to improve its generation fleet reliability.

Sunday, 17 March
- Stage 1: 16h00 to 23h59
Monday, 18 March
- Stage 1: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 2: 05h00 to 23h59
Tuesday, 19 March
- Stage 2: 00h00 to 23h59
Unplanned outages currently stand at 14,641MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance jumped to 7,850MW.
“Eskom Power Station General Managers and their teams are working diligently to ensure that additional generating capacity is recovered by bringing units on unplanned outages and planned maintenance back to service as soon as possible,” it said.
A total of 3,830 MW of generating capacity is predicted to return to service by Wednesday, 20 March 2024.
The anticipated evening peak demand for tonight is 24,701MW.
