This South African entrepreneur is on a mission to help 1 million people

 ·5 Sep 2025

Stewart Miller is an influential South African entrepreneur on a mission to help a million people move, think, and live better.

Miller began his career in the automotive sector, where he built a successful distribution business before founding Emotion Cycling – now Evolution Cycling.

Under his guidance, this cycling business grew from selling just 50 bicycles in its first year to now distributing over 100,000 bicycles across 13 international brands annually.

A pivotal milestone for Miller and the company during this time was successfully bringing CERVELO to South Africa.

CERVELO was a little-known brand locally at the time, but through its association with Evolution Cycling, it has become a leading name across triathlon, cycling, and Ironman competition.

His experience with CERVELO – and Evolution Cycling as a whole – helped Miller understand how to scale and build a brand.

Following this, Miller shifted his attention to fitness and created a boutique fitness studio brand in Dubai.

His brand quickly became the number one fitness studio in the Middle East and won awards for five consecutive years.

Whether in South Africa or working abroad, Miller has established himself as an entrepreneur who works fast, builds standout products, and delivers results.

Entrepreneurial challenges in South Africa

While Miller is highly successful, he acknowledges that South African entrepreneurs still face many challenges.

This includes access to capital, as raising funds locally is difficult.

High interest rates make debt expensive and ensure offshore investors are hesitant to enter the market due to volatile currency fluctuations.

Such volatility also leads to unpredictability, which demands adaptability and resilience from entrepreneurs.

However, while these challenges are a significant hurdle, Miller believes they helped shape him into who he is today – and will do the same for other South Africans who persevere.

Stewart Miller’s advice for entrepreneurs

Miller believes there are a few universal habits that entrepreneurs, or anyone interested in maintaining productivity levels, should follow.

The first is maintaining your physical condition with regular exercise and quality sleep.

This will help sustain your internal energy levels and keep your mind sharp for improved and consistent performance.

Mental health is also important, with Miller recommending meditation and reflection to help keep you balanced and focused.

Reflection can include writing in a journal or making morning reports to help you keep your important goals in mind.

Such mental discipline is key to being successful – those who allow themselves to get distracted rarely succeed.

Importantly, you should then build a circle of people who will challenge and support you. Avoid pessimists, and instead find people who will give you constructive feedback.

Failure isn’t the end, Miller believes.

Instead, it should be treated as free experience that can help you pave the road to future success.
