dotsure.co.za’s Beard Club: Relieving Resource Pressure for the GRSPCA

 ·11 Dec 2025

Animal welfare organisations work under increasing financial pressure, shrinking donations, and rising operational demands.

For the Garden Route SPCA – George (GRSPCA), these pressures affect daily capacity, staff output, and the quality of care given to hundreds of vulnerable animals.

Volunteers and community partners have become essential in filling the widening gap between need and available funding.

This year, dotsure.co.za’s Beard Club stepped forward to provide not only financial support but Soft Landings for the animals who desperately need them, and for the humans who refuse to give up on them at the GRSPCA.

Relieving operational strain through practical support

During their annual November volunteer initiative, the dotsure.co.za Beard Club focused on high-priority tasks identified by the GRSPCA team. They assisted with:

  • Rebuilding, repairing, and repainting kennels,
  • Reinforcing animal enclosures,
  • Deep-cleaning and restoring high-use areas, and
  • Collecting and delivering essential donated food, blankets, toys, and other essentials.

According to the GRSPCA staff on-site, volunteer labour relieves pressure on already overstretched teams, allowing animal welfare professionals to focus on critical tasks such as veterinary care, inspections, rescues, and cruelty investigations.

Giving back to the community is a fundamental part of dotsure.co.za’s DNA, and we strive to do this on a daily basis, not just for special events.” Desmond Wood, Senior Manager Direct Motor Sales & Warranty Vertical at dotsure.co.za, and whiskered warrior in the Beard Club ranks, said.

Reducing costs for an underfunded sector: Real operational impact on GRSPCA facilities

Unlike many industries, SPCAs cannot scale operationally by increasing revenue.

With no guaranteed government funding, animal welfare organisations must constantly stretch their limited resources.

Volunteer labour from dotsure.co.za produces immediate financial relief by:

  • Reducing maintenance expenses,
  • Extending the lifespan of existing structures,
  • Decreasing the need for external contractors,
  • Offsetting costs of goods through donated items.

In practical terms, every hour of work done by dotsure.co.za’s warm-hearted volunteers translate into money redirected towards operations.

The support from the Beard Club helps the SPCA grow, and it makes things easier for the staff and for the animals to meet new people.” Lukhanyo Swelindawo, an Animal Carer at the GRSPCA, expressed.

Warren Woolley, Senior Manager Pet Vertical at dotsure.co.za, and proud face in the Beard Club lineup, puts it like this; “We had 70 guys that all donated money, but partnering with the GRSPCA allows the team to get their hands dirty and make a tangible contribution, rather than just making a donation.”

Why fundraising and volunteerism matter more than ever

With the nonprofit sector under pressure, both fundraising and volunteer labour have become strategic necessities rather than optional extras.

The GRSPCA notes that, partnerships like the one between dotsure.co.za and the GRSPCA offer a replicable model for how South African businesses can create high-impact social investment, alleviate operational strain, and deliver meaningful cost relief for NGOs.

Strong hearts produce Soft Landings

At its heart, dotsure.co.za‘s work with GRSPCAs is about creating Soft Landings for animals and for the people who keep them going. Because for many rescued animals, a soft landing can change everything.

Desmond Wood summed it up like this; “Soft Landings is dotsure.co.za’s promise to animals and communities. It’s an internal mantra and our main purpose for existing. It’s about giving back and making a positive impact wherever we go. Whether we’re protecting cars, supporting pets, or uplifting our communities, we’re here to make a difference one policy and one meaningful act of kindness at a time.
