The R4,300 a month gym membership in South Africa that gives you access to luxury services and an indoor pool
Virgin Active’s Collection clubs have a monthly price far higher than many competitors’, with luxury amenities to justify it.
The clubs are upgrades from the group’s regular gyms, offering additional services such as treatment rooms and specialised classes.
The group currently have five collection facilities, spread across KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape, and Gauteng.
While normal Virgin Active gym memberships will cost between R680 and R1,600 per month, depending on the location, collection clubs can cost far more.
For a one-year contract, the monthly price of a collection gym membership ranges from R3,200 to R4,350, depending on location.
The most expensive collection gym is found in Cape Town near the Waterfront, while the cheapest is the Moses Mabhida facility in Durban.
While these are currently listed as the most expensive gyms that Virgin Active offers, the group has recently opened a new luxury facility.
The gym opened at the start of 2026 in Sea Point, Cape Town, replacing an existing Virgin Active gym there.
The newest facility goes a step further than other Collection gyms, focusing on creating a country club experience for its members.
This means that, in addition to traditional workout and training spaces, the club has outdoor tennis and padel courts, a heated pool, and advanced recovery spaces.
These advanced recovery spaces include a luxury spa area with hot and cold therapy, as well as a recovery suite with hydromassage beds and compression boots.
The facility also features unique training spaces, including dedicated equipment and areas for reformer Pilates and several other classes.
There is also a range of experts working at the club, including dieticians, biokineticists, and sports scientists.
On Virgin Active’s website, the group calls the Sea Point facility a “new kind of club,” emphasising a luxury experience alongside traditional gym offerings.
The club has several offerings which promote social activities, such as the outdoor sports facilities and group fitness classes.
Virgin Active has said that the design of the new Collection Country Club is intentional, to ensure that all of its spaces are usable and add to the overall experience.
“Move effortlessly between beautiful boutique studios, state-of-the-art equipment and a brand new Olympic standard pool for our aquatic offering,” it said on its website.
While Virgin Active clubs generally focus on providing well-equipped, high-end facilities, the Sea Point club goes far beyond what you’d find in a typical gym.
A step beyond regular gyms
Virgin Active’s Sea Point club is unique among the group’s usual facilities, which range widely in price and amenities.
The group do not list a price for the Sea Point club, but has previously said that members from the area’s original club received discounted membership rates.
In November 2025, Virgin Active offered existing point club members a “founding membership” which would cost R1,749 per month.
The monthly price was also extended to spouses and partners of existing members, with an option to add one child for free and other children for R1,250 each.
The offer was made to ensure that the club did not alienate its existing members during the upgrade of its facility.
The founding membership option was then extended to others who had trained at the club, including those with memberships at the previous padel courts.
Currently, Virgin Active is not advertising new memberships for the Collection Country Club online, focusing instead on retaining existing members.
This means that, currently, Virgin Active’s most expensive offering is its Silo District gym in Cape Town, costing R4,350 per month on a one-year contract.
This gym also offers several luxury amenities, including specialised fitness classes such as reformer Pilates, a mind-body studio, and suspension yoga.
The gym also has a heated indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms, and a wide variety of high-end training equipment.
