Update: Eskom has moved into stage 2 load shedding, which is expected to continue to 22:00.

Eskom has announced that stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 17:00 to 22:00 on 8 June 2015.

The power utility said the need for controlled power cuts was due to a shortage of generating capacity.

The announcement of load shedding comes after over a week of no power cuts by Eskom.

Eskom appealed to consumers to reduce their electricity usage where possible.
