Absa app now availabile for BlackBerry

Financial services group Absa Bank has on Wednesday (10 July) unveiled its app for BlackBerry devices.

Launched in mid-April, Absa said its app would be the first real, native financial services app for smartphones and tablets in South Africa.

“The App has already provided through the more than 133,000 downloads by customers on to Apple, Android and BlackBerry Z10 devices,” it said in a statement.

“From today (10 July)  the customised App for BlackBerry devices running BB5, BB6 and BB7 operating systems is available in the BlackBerry App World,” the bank said.

Arrie Rautenbach head of Retail Bank said of the app: “It adds many aspects of traditional transactional services like the ability to quickly check account balances, transfer funds between accounts, pay beneficiaries, perform a CashSend transaction and also purchase airtime for any network.”

Rautenbach pointed out that the App is available for both individual and business customers and will permit users to link multiple BlackBerrys, smartphones or tablets to a single profile or multiple banking profiles (business and personal accounts) to a single device.

As a security feature, devices are required to be linked to an Absa Online banking profile.

“This is a security feature to ensure that no unauthorised attempts can be made to access a customer’s banking profile via the App. Devices that are lost or changed can de-authorised while new devices that are identified by the App will be required to be and authorised by the customer,” Rautenbach said.
