Good news for Absa customers using a banking app in South Africa
Absa has announced a new partnership with EasyEquities, one of South Africa’s largest investment platforms, to give its customers access to new investing options on its banking app.
The partnership will give Absa’s approximately 12 million-person client base access to direct investment tools on Absa’s personal banking app.
The bank said that there is already a significant overlap between the two companies, with approximately 125,000 of its customers’ accounts linked to EasyEquities.
EasyEquities is an online trading platform in South Africa that gives customers an easy way to invest in the JSE and other markets.
These online trading platforms have become popular around the world for their simplicity, giving people direct access to markets without going through an investment manager or other third party.
It said that the investing platform is also home to roughly 30,000 Absa shareholders and 20,000 people who hold Absa investment products.
Absa said the partnership would strengthen its ambition to make financial services more accessible in South Africa by integrating with existing technology.
The partnership also supports the bank’s long-term goals involving digital innovation and ecosystem partnerships.
EasyEquities will also benefit from the agreement by increasing its client base and boosting the value of the assets held on the platform.
The investing intermediary has formed similar partnerships with other banks, helping it grow its client base by making its products easily accessible.
It has previously partnered with companies such as Capitec and Discovery, providing their customers with investment tools.
EasyEquities CEO, Charles Savage, said, “Our mission is to make access to markets available to more people, because markets remain one of the most effective ways to grow and protect wealth over time.”
“This partnership gives Absa clients a simple way to start investing directly through a platform they already trust and use.”
Absa chief executive of personal and private banking pan-Africa, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, said, “This partnership builds on a natural connection between Absa and EasyEquities.”
“Many Absa clients already invest through EasyEquities, while many EasyEquities users are connected to Absa as shareholders, clients, or investors in our products.”
“By bringing the experience into the Absa app, we can make investing simpler and more accessible for more of our clients.”
Absa has not yet announced a launch date for the partnership, and said that details would be shared in September 2026.
