R1.8 billion Menlyn Maine mall open for business

 ·22 Sep 2016

The R1.8 billion Menlyn Maine mall – part of the R8 billion Menlyn Maine “green city” development in Pretoria – has opened its doors.

The mall officially opened on Wednesday (21 September) with a ceremony attended by government officials, including Gauteng Premier David Makhura.

The mixed-use Central Square is 6,000 square metres and features 84 stores, and lifestyle facilities such as the Virgin Active Classic gym – one of only four in the country.

The mall is also home to the third Starbucks branch in South Africa – excluding the small outlet at Taste Holdings’ main offices.

The Menlyn Maine Starbucks is a 250 square metre store that will offer the ‘full Starbucks experience’ including coffee, a fresh food selection and free, high-speed Wi-Fi.

The mall will also be home to Australian casual dining chain, Ribs & Burgers, which will be opening up its first restaurant in South Africa this month.

Development on Menlyn Maine has been ongoing for a number of years, and the project has already completed several key structures, including the Nedbank and Sage buildings.

The precinct covers 315,000 square metres near the mall, and is split into commercial, residential and urban entertainment sectors, while maintaining parklands throughout.

The precinct has been in development since 2010, with the the retail component of the project now completed.
