Cape Town International Airport has won the Skytrax Award for Best Airport in Africa, at a ceremony held in Amsterdam.
South African airports featured prominently on the list with King Shaka International rated second, and O.R. Thambo International, East London Airport 6th and Port Elizabeth Airport in 10th place.
The 2017 World Airport Awards are based on 13.82 million airport survey questionnaires that were completed by 105 different nationalities of air travellers during the survey period.
According to Skytrax, the survey operated from July 2016 to February 2017, covering 550 airports worldwide and evaluating traveller experiences across different airport service and product key performance indicators.

Singapore Changi Airport was named as the World’s Best Airport by air travellers for the fifth consecutive year, while South Africa’s major airports performed well on a global level.
Cape Town Airport was ranked 19th (22nd in 2016), Johannesburg’s OR Tambo slipped to 35th, from 30th in 2016, and King Shaka Airport was stable at 35th best airport in the world.
The Durban airport did rank sixth best regional airport in the rankings.
