Takealot was suffering from slow load times and unresponsive pages minutes into Black Friday 2017.
Takealot launched its Black Friday 2017 Blue Dot Sale just after midnight on the morning of 24 November.
The company said on Twitter that it was working to stabilise the site and restore full access “ASAP”.
BusinessTech was unable to access deals on the site or search for products at the time of writing.
According to Takealot, its 2017 sale will cover five days, from Black Friday on 24 November – which is Takealot’s Blue Dot sale – through the weekend to Cyber Monday on 27 November. The retailer said it will then follow up with Takealot Tuesday on the 28th.
The group said it expects volumes to increase by 50% compared to 2016, where sales reached R56 million.
