South African online retailer, Takealot.com, says that it expects Black Friday sales to jump by at least 50% compared to 2016 – on what has become the group’s biggest sales peak in the year.

According to Takealot, its 2017 sale will cover five days, from Black Friday on 24 November – which is Takealot’s Blue Dot sale – through the weekend to Cyber Monday on 27 November. The retailer said it will then follow up with Takealot Tuesday on the 28th.

The group said it expects volumes to increase by 50% compared to 2016, where sales reached R56 million.

Black Friday has seen enormous growth in popularity in SA – 2016’s sales were up from R17 million in 2015, and way up from R1 million in sales in 2011 when it held its first Black Friday sale, it said.

“Shoppers can expect thousands of crazy discounts on Takealot’s most popular product categories like cellphones, laptops, kitchen appliances, TVs and beauty ranges, plus massive savings in all other departments too – from books and toys, gaming and baby stuff, to camping gear, luggage, pets, liquor and more.

“Hundreds of brand new deals will be added every day across the weekend, including Cyber Monday,” the group said.

Takealot.com’s Black Friday deals go live at 00:01AM on Friday 24 November, and shoppers who have downloaded the Takealot.com app will be able shop selected app-only Blue Dot deals earlier in the week, starting from 20 November, it said.
