Curro increases footprint in Joburg

The Curro private school group has acquired The King’s School Linbro Park, along with two nursery schools known as Land of Oz from two different vendors as part of a plan to extend its reach in Johannesburg.

“Although these acquisitions may not be material, they are strategic from a footprint and/or operational perspective,” the group said in a statement on Tuesday (3 December).

Kings School Acquisition

The King’s School is a well-known private school situated in Linbro Park, Sandton and was founded in 1986 by Love Reaching Communities Church (then known as Waverley New Covenant).

The King’s School provides educational services to learners from Grade 000 (pre-school) to Grade 12, currently comprising of approximately 390 enrolled learners.

Curro said it plans to further develop the King’s School campus to create additional capacity for approximately 900 additional learners.

The Kings School Acquisition is subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions precedent, none of which are material or likely to impact the implementation of the transaction, Curro said.

Land of Oz Acquisition

Land of Oz are well-known nursery schools and were founded in 1987. The Land of Oz nursery schools comprise of two campuses, Fourways and Chartwell, catering for approximately 240 children.

Curro said it plans to further develop the Chartwell campus and to construct a private primary and high school for up to 1,300 learners.

“Both acquisitions are aligned with Curro’s intention to expand its geographical footprint in Gauteng and to extend its education offering, it said.
