Dawie Roodt is a director and chief economist of Efficient Group, and is a nationally-renowned economics expert with 30 years’ experience in South Africa’s monetary affairs.
Roodt specialises in monetary and fiscal policy and is involved with the management of client asset portfolios. He is ranked the most referenced economists in the country and received the prestigious Economist of the year award by Sake 24, a media house.
An economist at the South African Reserve Bank, having achieved his Master’s degree in economics, Roodt has presented more than 800 television, and 1,500 radio programs.
In this episode of Business Talk with Michael Avery, Roodt discusses how Covid-19 and the resulting lockdown caused untold damage to the country’s economy.
Understanding the state of the economy, comes with it some form of political commentary, which Roodt shares with Michael. The economist says he has doubts about the president’s economic recovery plan, particularly around job creation – “this is a keeping people busy plan,” he said.
Roodt says that it’s not all bad news in the country, however, citing some good examples.
