New international flight launching for one of South Africa’s busiest routes

South African airline Airlink will introduce three new weekly flights from Johannesburg Lanseria to Harare, with service expected to start on 15 November 2026.

Bookings are officially open for flights on this route, which is reported to be the first scheduled airline service between the privately owned Lanseria Airport and Zimbabwe’s capital city, Harare.

Airlink said the new service will provide an alternative “point-to-point” connection for people wanting to travel from Lanseria International Airport rather than OR Tambo International Airport.

“This world-class, modern facility is ideally located to serve communities and businesses on the western side of Gauteng and the North-West Province,” said the airline.

The new route will also be Airlink’s first scheduled Lanseria service, operated by an Embraer E190 aircraft that can accommodate 6 Business Class and 92 Economy passengers, for a total of 98 passengers.

As with all other Airlink flights, only window and aisle seats will be available, as there are no middle seats on any Airlink flights.

“Johannesburg-Harare is one of the busiest routes in Southern Africa and saw demand averaging around 60,000 seats a month in 2025,” said Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht.

“A significant percentage of this market comprises people within Lanseria’s catchment area, and Airlink is able to better serve these customers by augmenting our existing services (which operate out of OR Tambo), with the new Lanseria flights.”

The airline said that Airlink customers on board will receive complimentary meals and refreshments, nd that the configuration of the cabin allows for “generous” leg-room.
