Eskom suspends daytime load shedding – here’s the new schedule for the week ahead

Power utility Eskom has announced it will suspend daytime load shedding for the week ahead before implementing stage 2 in the evenings.

“Due to the return of some generating units to service since Friday and the sufficient emergency reserves, load shedding will remain suspended until 16:00 on Monday,” it said.

“Thereafter, Stage 2 load shedding will resume from 16h00 until 05h00 on Tuesday, when load shedding will be suspended again from 05h00 until 16h00,” it added.

Eskom further noted that the alternating pattern of suspending load shedding from 05h00 until 16h00 and implementing Stage 2 load shedding from 16h00 until 05h00 will be repeated daily until further notice.

The schedule is as follows:

Sunday, 3 March

  • Suspended

Monday, 4 March

  • Suspended: 00h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00

Tuesday, 5 March

  • Stage 2: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Suspended: 05h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00

Wednesday, 6 March

  • Stage 2: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Suspended: 05h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00

A further total of 2,200MW of generating capacity is anticipated to be returned to service by Wednesday.

Eskom’s evening peak demand for tonight is 24,849MW. The power utility said it would communicate should any significant changes occur.
