Takealot has started selling the 38mm silver aluminium case Apple Watch for R9,999, offering three variants with different colours of sport band: blue, white, and green.
The Apple Watch Sport retails for between $349 and $399 (R4,200 – R4,800 exclusing sales tax) in the States, while the standard stainless steel Apple Watch sells for between $549 and $599 (R6,600 – R7,200 also excluding sales tax).
Takealot customers would not be the first to pay a hefty sum to get their hands on an Apple Watch.
At the beginning of May, a Bidorbuy user ended up paying R10,750 for the Apple Watch Sport, and R13,000 for the Apple Watch, after bids started at R9,000 and R11,000, respectively.
“He had to wrangle for the aluminium watch with two competitors, and outbid one other bidder for the stainless steel watch,” said Bidorbuy.
In its listing for the devices, Takealot said the Apple Watches it sells are sourced from a UK supplier, who will also handle the warranty.
“Please allow 2–3 weeks for any warranty repairs or replacements,” Takealot said.
