All day load shedding on Sunday: Eskom

There will be no load shedding for most of Saturday as there is currently enough electricity generating capacity to meet demand‚ Eskom says.
However‚ the power utility warned that there is a possibility that stage 1 load shedding might be implemented during the evening peak period‚ from 5pm to 9pm‚ mainly as a result of increased electricity demand.
It also announced that load shedding will be implemented for most of the day on Sunday‚ as the power utility will be using the day to build up its reserves in order to prepare for the week ahead.
“As we are currently experiencing cold weather conditions across the country as a result of the cold front‚ we urge electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm‚” Eskom urged.
“In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times. We appeal to all our customers to continue to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day but to be aware of the need to save more during the peak periods from 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.
“Commercial customers‚ particularly shopping centres and office blocks‚ can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours‚” the power utility added.
Load shedding on Friday night resulted in traffic snarl-ups for several hours in and around Johannesburg‚ the country’s and financial hub.
